The Journal of Immunology, 2008, 180: 3028-3037.

Source: human placenta.
Purification method: Chromatography purified.
Shipment conditions: Lyophilized, essentially salt free.
Purity: Greater than 98% by SDS-PAGE.
Contamination: HCG and HGH < 0.1% (RIA).
Potency: 1 mIU/mg in terms of the 1st IRP Int.St. 73/545.
Scientific notes:
hPL (Placental Lactogen) = hCS (Choriosomatomammotropine).
- Holoprotein of 190 aminoacid residues, MW: 22,000 daltons.
- Two disulfide bridges.
- I.P. 5.5.
- Stability in solution: hPL in the buffer A (concentration: 10mghPL/ml) is stable at room temperature for 15 days { Buffer A: PBS 0.2M, glycerol 10% (v/v) pH 7.4, NaN3 0.5% + BSA 0.2%, neomycin 200mg/l, PMSF 1mg/l, trasylol (Bayer) 100,000 IU/l }.
Assay: Fast RIA with goat g-globulin anti hPL bound to a solid phase (incubation time: 30 minutes).
Biological properties: hPL acts as a potent lactogen and as a very weak somatogen.
